Tips From An Artist On How To Draw/Paint:
1. My biggest artist tip is to not worry about messing up when you are drawing. Don't be afraid to make mistakes because, you can erase and re-draw or turn your error into something beautiful. As an artist, I make mistakes all the time. My eraser is my best friend. You can always paint over your eraser marks and they will no longer show up. So do not be afraid to mess up. Mistakes can be fixed or changed.
2. Number 2, Art/Drawing is more about seeing than actually drawing. When I look at an object, I look at every color change, every shape, every shape change, every shadow, every line, ect... You get the idea. Try to draw exactly what you see. Focus in on an object and look at everything you see in detail and then draw what you see.
3. Patience is a key word for all artists. You have to learn to be patient with yourself until you get your masterpiece looking the way you want it to. This can take minutes, hours, or days. This can actually be very hard if you are an impatient person. Practice being patient with yourself.
4. Understand the color wheel and color schemes. It is helpful to know and understand colors and how they work with each other. These are basic things that you learned in elementary school, Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, Neutral Colors, Analogous Color Scheme, Monochromatic Color Scheme, ect... Also learn, and re-educate yourself on mixing colors together to get a new color. Example, adding red and blue creates purple, adding yellow and red creates orange. This can be very helpful when you are painting.
5. Practice, practice, practice. Think of something you would like to draw. Find a picture of it or imagine it in your head and then practice re-creating it with your own touch of creativity.
